Local peace coalition protests U.S. action in Syria

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Northwest Ohio Peace Coalition is speaking out against any kind of U.S. military action in Syria.

The coalition doesn't want the United States to go to war with Syria because they say the evidence just isn't there.

The alleged use of chemical weapons against Syrian people earlier this month has put the country at the top of the radar for the United States and the United Nations. It is still not known who released the gas, and investigations are ongoing.

American war ships are off the coast of Syria, ready to fire cruise missiles if necessary. That gesture is scary and rash, according to members of the peace coalition.

The members stood at the corner of Central and Secor in Toledo Wednesday afternoon, spreading their message. They believe if the U.S. strikes against Syria, World War III wouldn't be far behind.

"There could be other answers out there, and nobody seems to stop and attempt to get those other answers," said coalition member Karen Wolf. "The people want peace. The people don't want us over there. They don't want boots on the ground, bombs in the air. They want to take over and rule their own country."

As much as she hates to admit it, Wolf says she does believe the U.S. will take action.
