TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Toledo Police Department executed 25 search warrants, netting 26 arrests on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The department says the sweep was in an effort to reduce violence and drug dealing in the city.
The department seized four firearms, $3,650 in U.S. currency and more than $59,000 in drugs during the operation. Police say they found heroin, marijuana, crack cocaine and prescription drugs.
"Hopefully this will make a difference, make a statement that we're not going to tolerate this kind of activity on the streets," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan. "We take some satisfaction knowing we took those fire arms off the street and it's going to make the whole community a little safer."
Involved were the Toledo Police Strategic Response Bureau, the Metro Drug Task Force, Vice Narcotics, the Toledo Police Gang Unit and SWAT.
The drug money that was seized will go into a fund to support other police drug operations, which in turn, help get drugs and drug dealers off the street.
