Sylvania Twp Fire Department gets new SUV

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Sylvania Township Fire Department has purchased a new state-of-the-art SUV that will make responding to fires safer.

The department bought a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe that will be added to their command fleet. It will be used by the on-call chief officer and will feature up-to-date LED emergency lights and louder sirens, making it safer for the driver to respond to emergencies.

The $30,000 purchase was approved by township trustees Thursday. It will be paid for out of the fire department's budget.

"For the last several years, we've budgeted for new vehicles," said Deputy Chief Mike Ramm. "Times are tough and we haven't replaced the other vehicles over the last few years, but we got a serious need now, so the trustees were able to approve it."

The new SUV will replace a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer. The Blazer will be sold at auction.
