Seymour, Indiana -

The quick actions of two Indiana State Troopers and two Seymour police officers saved the life of a man involved in a fiery crash.

Police say that Christopher Nichols, 30, was driving southbound on S. O'Brien Street around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Officers say that his vehicle veered off the side of the road striking a bridge abutment. Authorities say that the vehicle overturned onto its side where it burst into flames becoming fully engulfed.

Troopers Chris Lockman and Jared Black arrived on the scene along with Seymour Police Officers Bart Bevers and Crystal Schapson. Officers arriving on the scene say that the driver of the vehicle was lying near the burning car with his clothes on fire.

Police say that Lockman and Black pulled Nichols from the wreckage as Bevers and Schapson fought the fire with fire extinguishers.

Officers managed to get the victim a safe distance from the flames before EMS officials arrived on the scene.

Nichols was transported to Schneck Medical Center and later air lifted to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis where he was treated for severe burns.

The accident is currently under investigation.
