TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
They're being built inside the Toledo Assembly Complex, but Chrysler has yet to deliver the new Jeep Cherokee models to dealer lots.
At Charlie's Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep in Maumee, they're already taking orders.
"The initial allocation came out in August," said Ken Millen, new car sales manager at Charlie's. "We had three people come in to place orders, all with deposits down."
At Yark Auto on the Central Avenue strip, the sales team is itching to get people behind the wheel for a test drive.
"Through Chrysler we've been allocated 44 Jeep Cherokees right now, and we've already had a handful of orders, five or six," said Brian Alexander, a member of the new car sales team at Yark. "That number keeps increasing. More and more people are getting excited."
Millen says while they're anticipating Cherokee deliveries to begin next week, he says he wouldn't be surprised if that gets bumped back.
"They are not going to just ship cars to ship cars, they're going to be 100 percent right for when people get in," he said. "Let's face it, this is a major launch for Chrysler."
Alexander says what will fuel Cherokee sales is a new look and a new engine.
"A lot of people like the way the new Cherokee looks, and they're excited about the new Pentastar engine," he said. "That engine's been great for the vehicles Chrysler's been using it in."
Jodi Tinson, a spokesperson for Chrysler, issued the following statement Tuesday:
"We have said that vehicles will ship by the end of the month. We are not giving a specific date."
