The Carroll Water & Sewer District is removing the "do not drink" water advisory for area water sources. Township leaders say it is now safe for residents to consume normal drinking water use.
In a statement Sunday afternoon, officials said, "Carroll Water & Sewer District has moved to a new source of water and confirmed the system is flushed. We will return to our source of water when we are confident the toxins are below levels of concern."
Lake Erie, the source of drinking water for the township, is experiencing a harmful algal bloom, producing a number of toxins that should not be ingested.
The township's water system tested positive for algal toxins Wednesday. By Thursday, the amount doubled.
On Friday, cases of bottled water were handed out to residents in the township.
