TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Toledo police and fire departments have joined forces with the American Red Cross and want you to honor the people who support local communities, either by protecting, saving, serving or just being an everyday hero.

You can honor your hero by donating blood this week at the Toledo Donor Center, located at 3510 Executive Parkway, on the following days:

Monday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Tuesday 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Thursday 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Friday 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Saturday 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Donating blood is one way you can help build a strong community, while ensuring that hospital patients have the blood they need. When you come to donate, you will receive a coupon for a free Uncle John's breakfast, plus a Red Cross first aid kit.

While thousands of people answered the call for blood and platelet donations issued by the Red Cross earlier this summer, an urgent need remains for platelets and types O negative, A negative and B negative blood.

Call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit the Red Cross online for more information and to make an appointment to help save lives.

A blood donor card, driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 - 16 with parental consent in some states - weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
