(WMC-TV) - If you have even been to 201 Poplar for anything, you have probably seen Maurice McCraw. But around there, she is known the "job lady."
In fact, if you have ever been there, she may have asked you if you were looking for a job. After all, she has been doing it for 28 years. And in those 28 years she has found thousands of jobs for unemployed people.
"Getting things resolved ... And this place is jammed packed every day ... They call me job lady ... or mamma and I like that," said McCraw.
She may have the most important purpose of all, which is giving hope to people and letting them know jobs are available.
For the last 28 years, Maurise has been volunteering with the Justice Center After Care Program, sponsored by the Shelby County Public Defender's Office. She will help anyone.
"It's just a wonderful thing to be a part of helping the public," she said. "I find babies have completed their time, and they are entitled for a second chance, the very best chance at their disposal."
She knows first hand what it is like to fall. She, too, had run with the law after struggling with alcohol abuse years ago.
Now she is giving people hope for a better life much like someone did for her.
The job lady's purpose service carries many people out the door for good.
"I'm very, very proud to be a part of this," she said.
McCraw starts her mornings gathering jobs and resources for people. You can catch her every day inside 201 Poplar on the lower level and the first and second floors.
