A suspected serial rapist is sitting in the Cleveland City jail under investigation for sex assaults that date back to 2005.
Gregory Fitzgerald, Jr. is charged with one rape, but Cleveland Sex Crimes detectives will go to a grand jury for charges in three more rapes.
Records show, Fitzgerald is a suspect in cases from 2005, 2008, 2011, and this year. Police say all of the sex assaults were carried out at gunpoint. And in one court document, an officer wrote, "no woman is safe with this man on our streets."
The mother of one 23-year old victim told 19 Action News, she had a feeling he was to blame for that attack. She knew his family.
"I wanted to attack him. I really did. I'm a mother, and you don't want nobody to hurt your kid, no matter how old they are," the woman said.
DNA helped identify Greg Fitzgerald but he got caught mostly after old fashioned police work.
He has a record for stolen property cases and a weapons case -- but he didn't go to prison.
So we've learned he didn't have a DNA sample on file with the state.
