Construction in Napoleon aimed to improve safety

Posted: Updated:
NAPOLEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A major construction project is under way in Napoleon, as crews work to repair and widen Route 108. Detour and road closed signs will be posted for a little while longer, but city leaders say it's a project well worth the time and one that will improve safety.

The goal is to reduce the number of rear-end crashes on route 108. Crews will be adding a turn lane and reducing the number of driveways.

The city only has to pay for about 10 percent of the project, since it received a $3 million safety grant.

"What we were finding was that when people wanted to turn left, the traffic behind them wouldn't be aware of it, and would come and hit them from behind. Now they'll be able to get in that center turn lane and that will alleviate that situation," explained Chad Lulfs, director of Public Works.

Crews will be completely redoing the intersection of Scott and Lagrange, as well.

The entire project is expected to be completed by Dec. 14.
