TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The West Toledo Branch Library will be closing its doors to the public on September 30 for restoration and expansion.
The library will remain closed through the end of this year and the beginning of next year and is expected to re-open next summer.
The library will be getting a larger children's area, an elevator to the meeting room and more computers as well as a more accessible print collection.
The section of the building that was constructed in the 1930s will also be seeing upgrades including new carpeting, restoration of the pendant lighting and removal of the visible ductwork in the ceiling.
"The West Toledo Branch project will significantly extend the lifecycle of this public building for many decades," said Charlie Oswanski, the library's Facilities and Operations Superintendent, "Great care is being taken to restore and enhance the beautiful Tudor Architecture."
Patrons have until Saturday September 28 to pick up any requested materials.After that date, any items for which the library does not receive alternate instructions will be sent to the Washington Branch Library on Harvest Lane.
The west Toledo Branch Library also underwent a major expansion in 2001.
