(WMC-TV) - MLGW is taking extra steps following an employee's arrest for alleged computer crimes. Internal systems are in place to catch this type of crime; changes may allow MLGW to notice it sooner.
"Well, we did have an employee who, over a period of time, had been tampering with some of the customer accounts," said MLGW Communications Director Gale Jones Carson.
Treccer Sims, 37, was arrested Wednesday and charged with computer crimes.
"The company has put more stringent measures in place to stay on top of employees tampering with customer accounts," said Carson.
Sims is accused of making adjustments in the company computer to remove charges on up to 12 accounts totaling some $15,000.
According to the affidavit, Sims also "altered her MLGW account with payment arrangements to keep her from paying her MLGW bill."
MLGW officials say Sims resigned after she was confronted about what an audit turned up.
"The message to other employees? Don't mess with customer accounts," said Carson.
It is unclear whose bills, besides her own, were affected by Sims' alleged tampering. She's being held on a $5,000.
