TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
It's a shot in the arm for the Wernert's Corners neighborhood, as a former grocery store building that's been vacant for years has been sold, with plans for a new fitness center to move in.
Brittany Goben lives on Laskey Road near Douglas, and she says it's been frustrating to look across the street and see the former Farmer Jacks building sit vacant.
"There's no activity over there, just a lot of cars going through, cops going through. It's exciting to see something going in there," said Goben.
Pete Shawaker, a local real estate agent who had the commercial listing, says the building sold last week to a company planning to put in a Planet Fitness center.
Although there's already a Planet Fitness location on Glendale Avenue, and another in Sylvania, Goben believes a new fitness center will help drive more people to the area and should help other businesses.
"It'll definitely bring a boost to the neighborhood. Just to see any type of business go in there, where it's not an empty building and can attract people, that'll be great," said Goben.
No word yet on when a new fitness center will open.
