SUMMERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (Toledo News Now) -
A driver was killed Friday in Monroe County when a van sped through a highway rest area, hitting a camper.
Police say 86-year-old John Pollock was driving a 2001 Pontiac mini-van and was killed when he exited the highway into the rest area at exit 9 off of US 23. Pollock apparently continued into the rest area at a high rate of speed and collided with a parked camper, which was towing a trailer. Pollock was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unclear why he was traveling so quickly in the rest area parking lot. Two people inside the camper were unharmed in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7551.
