TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
A tall ship sailed into the Glass City Thursday for an added stop on its Great Lakes tour.
The Peacemaker left Buffalo, NY earlier this week and docked in Toledo Thursday morning. The captain joined Toledo Mayor Mike Bell for a brief welcoming ceremony at International Park.
Built in 1989 for a family in Brazil, until now, the Peacemaker has been in South America, South Africa and the Caribbean. Originally designed as a personal yacht, the ship has been equipped with sail rigging with 10,000 square feet of sail area.
"It was the most visited tall ship in all of the tall ship festivals. Folks really do appreciate being able to walk on the ship, and also go through the cabins, which is a little unique for a tour," said Capt. Larry Clinton.
Tours will be open to the public all weekend:
-Friday from noon to 6 p.m. -Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tickets are $5 for adults. Children 12 and under get in free accompanied by an adult.
The tall ship will be staying in Buffalo for the winter, with plans for another Great Lakes tour in 2014.
