Teams from eight local companies: Allstate, Bober Markey Fedorovich, Bridgestone America Tires, Geis Foundation, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., GPD Group, Lockheed Martin and Meggitt Aircraft Braking, will spend the afternoon building and decorating their classic Derby style car.
The event is scheduled for Friday, September 27.
From 1-4 p.m., teams will build and decorate their ‘Soap Box' style Derby cars at 'Topside' in the Derby's 'Hall of Fame' building.
Then at 5 p.m., the public is invited to watch these eight teams race their cars down the hill on Derby Downs to crown a Corporate Derby Challenge Champion.
United Way of Summit County President Bob Kulinski said, "The Soap Box Derby is a unique and iconic institution locally and nationally, and we're pleased to be partnering with the Derby on this fun event. The eight companies participating in the Corporate Challenge Derby this year are doing so in order to support United Way and the Soap Box Derby, to engage in a wonderful team-building exercise for their employees, and I suspect, to allow some people to check an activity off their 'Bucket List' - that is, to ride down Derby Downs hill."
All are invited to enjoy a fun evening of good-natured competition to support two great area organizations - United Way of Summit County and the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby.
WHERE: Derby Downs - Derby Downs Road (just south of the intersection of Triplett Blvd and George Washington Blvd. in Akron.
