A grandmother is going to prison for the death of her grandchild, and the case is putting a spotlight on how often babies die while sleeping with adults.
Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services reported 18 sleep-related deaths and 13 involved parents and babies sharing the same bed.
That is the highest rate of sleep-related deaths in 15 years.
Social workers also generally see parents that are young, poor and living in the inner-city. The most common ages for victims are one to 2 months old.
Angela O'Neal was sentenced Friday for up to 3 years in prison for the death of her 1 month old grandchild Chloe.
Back in 2011, the child died while sleeping with grandma at a home in South Euclid. There was a bassinet in the room next to the bed, however it was crowded with belongings. Investigators still don't know exactly how the infant died.
Cuyahoga County social workers have campaigned to tell parents to have babies sleep alone, on their backs and in cribs.
