In a September 27 article online, Forbes Magazine studied the best high-performing public school districts in the country with affordable housing.
Wyoming City Schools ranked #4 in their slideshow of the top 20 districts in the U.S. where housing is affordable.
In the article, Forbes writer Daniel Fisher indicated that they used a comprehensive database from SchoolDigger.com, reviewed full-service school districts with reasonably large student bodies, and adjusted the state-level rankings to reflect SAT and ACT scores. The team then screened for towns and cities where the median home price, as calculated by Zillow, was less than double the national median. Given this information, the majority of the "best schools for your housing buck" are found in the Midwest part of the country.
"It's always validating to be recognized nationally for the work we do as a school system and a community," said Dr. Sue Lang, Wyoming City Schools superintendent. "I continue to believe that in Wyoming, our recipe for success is built on the engaged and active learners that enter our buildings, our highly involved and supportive community members and the supporting organizations that give back to the schools. Wyoming is unique because we are a quaint town where students ride their bikes to school, parents volunteer at recess duty and residents line the streets and fill the stands at our events."
In addition to the latest recognition by Forbes Magazine, Wyoming High School has consistently been ranked nationally by U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek, The Washington Post and GreatSchools.org.
