OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -
After months of searching, and a long investigation leading to the discovery of her body in an East Toledo garage, family and loved ones of 18-month-old Elaina Steinfurth were finally able to say their final good-byes.
Hundreds of people gathered in Oregon to pay their final respects to a young life lost, many of the cars at the funeral carried messages of love to little Elaina.
So many people attended today's funeral, visitors had to stand in the lobby.
The Steinfurth family requested no media presence or interviews.
After an hour ceremony, Elaina's family carried out a tiny casket with her picture printed on the top.
Some community members stood beside the road along the procession route.
"I felt compelled. I feel for the family, I feel for the little girl. I just needed to be here," said Sandra Kincaid who watched the funeral procession.
Elaina was buried at the Lake Township Cemetery.
Upon arriving at the grave site, her father, T.J., released a white dove, while everyone else let go of dozens of balloons.
Elaina's mother, Angela, was denied the right to attend the funeral.
She and her boyfriend, Stephen King, each face obstruction of justice charges from when Elaina was still missing.
