MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -
teachers have been working without a contract since Jan. 1, 2013. Their battle
over a contract continued Monday at the school board meeting.
recent fact finder's report was not on the agenda Monday night, but before the
board entered into a 2-hour executive session, Maumee Education Association
(MEA) President Stacey Miller had strong words for board members.
called the board's behavior the ‘height of arrogance.' She claims the school
board is violating its new 3-year contract with teachers by changing when
health insurance increases would be collected – from Jan. 1, 2014 to the first
payroll in October – this Friday.
School Board President Glenn Rambo says that isn't the case.
[pay] increase for 2013, the teachers got 0 [percent], and for 2014 and 2015,
two percent each year with January 1 of 2014 being the start date on the
insurance premium. This is what we agreed to," Miller said.
report, as written, states that the contract for the MEA is effective January
1, 2013," Rambo said. "There is no other reference in the report to any other
effective date for health insurance. Both parties voted on the report as
report was first voted on by the board on Sept. 9 and by the MEA on Sept. 10. Rambo
says it is effective from Jan. 1, 2013 until Dec. 31, 2015.
