SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Sylvania Police say they have increased patrols around Timberstone Junior High in an effort to stop drivers from cutting through the school's parking lot.
School officials complained drivers started cutting through the lot when construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Sylvania Avenue and Mitchaw Road began last week. Drivers ignored detour and ‘no through traffic' signs and cut through the school's parking lot to get around the construction faster.
Sylvania Police say increased patrols, particularly before and after school, have caused drivers to start following the detour and staying out of the school parking lot.
"Kids get distracted easily, they see their friends, they see anything that's gonna take their attention away from their surroundings. So, it's up to us to be mindful of that, not only police officers, but the motoring public in general. You kind of have to," said patrolman Kevin Pelwecki.
The roundabout should be completed by mid November.
