Police are investigating an armed robbery in broad daylight
in one of the Queen City's nicest neighborhoods, inside one of its most beloved
It happened at the Graeter's location in Hyde Park Square
Tuesday evening around 6 p.m., and it has some neighbors a bit shaken.
In Hyde Park Square, you usually see families walking, and
friends meeting up for a bite to eat and a drink.
But, it was a very different scene on Tuesday. It was
a scene marred with yellow crime scene tape.
"It's very unusual to have
an offense of violence, a robbery, in this neighborhood," said Lt. David Fink
of the Cincinnati Police Dept.
A gunman came through the doors,
and forced employees to duck down under the counter. That suspect then
took off, and police are still trying to figure out exactly what was taken.
But, that's enough to put some
neighbors on edge.
"It kind of really scared me
to death because I live right up the street and I walk around in this
neighborhood a lot," said Terry Sundberg, who lives in Hyde Park.
Other than walking the streets of
Hyde Park, Sundberg can actually be found at this Graeter's location quite often
with her grandchildren. In fact, they ride their bikes here for a snack
"It's always been very, very
safe around here. I feel very safe when I walk at night. A person
having a gun, is really frightening," said Sundberg.
Police are actively searching for
the suspect they believe ran down the block and into an alley to a parking lot
behind the building. Neighbors don't see the neighborhood as unsafe, but
they are on alert.
"Very much on alert. I
will be very careful where I walk. I'm going to walk where there's
lights, more crowded streets," Sundberg told FOX19.
Police say the suspect is a black
man between 25-35 years old with a goatee. He was wearing a gray hooded
sweatshirt, blue jeans and a ball cap with a red bill.
