FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -
DICK'S Sporting Goods, the largest U.S.-based, full-line sporting goods retailer, has announced the opening of a new store in Findlay.
Construction is under way for the new store, taking the place of the former Aldi's grocery store, which was relocated in the city. Expected to open this fall before the holiday season starts, the store will feature famous footwear brands, plus the latest gear for sports teams, fitness, camping, hunting and fishing.
"I think it brings some competition into that sporting goods market, which is always good," said Anthony Iriti, director of Findlay Hancock County Alliance.
Hancock County economic officials believe this is a great time for retailers to open, bringing more jobs and new shopping opportunities heading into the holiday season.
"That's our biggest retail area, out on the east side, so they're going to be right in the middle of all the retail population," said Iriti.
DICK'S serves communities through its efforts of community marketing and youth sports programs, which work with local organizations to support schools and youth organizations in their pursuit of sports and outdoor activities.
To celebrate the new store in Findlay, DICK'S will host a three-day weekend of grand opening festivities, with a variety of giveaways and special appearances. Additional details on the grand opening will be available in the coming weeks.
As of Aug. 3, 2013, the company was operating 527 stores in 44 states and expects to open a similar amount of stores in 2013 as it did in 2012.
