Monroe Street reopens near Northview High School

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Northview High School students and parents alike are happy to see the end of a construction project in Sylvania. The city re-opened Monroe Street in both directions from Silica Drive to Erie Street on Friday.

"I'm really glad that it's over," said Northview parent Mary Wendt. "It will help us all not worry as much about our children. It will save me a lot of time during my day when I'm juggling all those things you have to do as a parent."

Parents say they are glad the project is completed, but had hoped construction would be finished before school started. City officials say that just was not possible.

"Our ideal time frame would have not included during school time, but unfortunately because of the marathon classic and the end of school, the date of the classic, the start of school, we had to impact it a little bit," said Public Service Director Kevin Aller.

As Northview parents breath and sigh of relief, the headache is just beginning for McCord Jr. High parents. In just 10 days, a new project begins on Sylvania Avenue between McCord Road and Holland-Sylvania Road.
