TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Ohio Investigative Unit and the Ohio State Highway Patrol were at the University of Toledo Monday night, training area liquor license holders on how to follow alcohol laws.
The seminar covered everything from how to properly verify a customer's identity to when to cut off a patron who has had too much to drink.
Officials say the most important thing for license holders is to take the time to do things properly to avoid a fine or worse.
"When it comes to underage people, they tell us they didn't have time, they were busy, they don't take the time and effort to look at the person and make sure that they're of age. Or they misread the identification, they don't add and subtract the number right, to verify the person is 21," said Agent in Charge Raymond Rodriguez with the Ohio Investigative Unit. "Basically, slow down. Ask for age. Ask for identification. Verify the person that's in front of you is the person on the ID. Take the time look at the date of birth, look at the picture on the ID make sure it matches up with the person that's standing in front of them."
