SHELTON, CT (WFSB) -

A Milford teenager was arrested for seriously injuring a store clerk during the theft of life-size signs of David Hasselhoff from a gas station in Shelton in August, police said.

According to police, a black SUV pulled into the parking lot of Cumberland Farms during the early morning hours on Aug. 20.

As a man was putting the signs into the SUV, the unidentified store clerk came out of the gas station and tried to stop the theft, police said.

Police said the SUV sped off and dragged the clerk, who was "spun around and flipped backwards landing on his head."

He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he was in critical condition at one point. As of Thursday, the clerk, 36, has been released from the hospital, but continues to recover from his injuries.

Following the theft, Hasselhoff tweeted that the burglary was a tragedy and his thoughts are with the clerk and his family.
