TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The man caught on camera trying to steal an assistance dog from a disabled woman riding a TARTA bus has been sentenced to prison.
Quincy Matthews, 20, plead guilty to robbery after trying to steal Arrica Okenka's assistance dog back in July. Matthews was sentenced to the minimum sentence of 2 years in prison on Friday.
Toledo Police used this video from inside the TARTA bus to track down Matthews.
Okenka says Matthews showed interest in the dog at the downtown bus stop where they boarded, and on the bus ride as well.
Matthews claims he was attempting to grab Okenka's purse, but grabbed the Ingrid's leash instead.
After pleading guilty, Matthews could have faced a maximum of 8 years in prison, but Okenka requested a lighter sentence instead.
"I feel bad for his family, but I don't feel bad for him. Because he needs to learn, and the only way he is going to learn is; you commit a crime, you suffer a consequence. Now, I didn't want him to do 8 years, that's excessive," said Okenka.
