LAKE TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Tracy Road was shut down at State Route 795 for nearly two full days as crews worked to repair a gas leak.
Lake Township Police Chief Mark Hummer says crews responded to a call of a gas leak around 3 p.m. Wednesday, helping Columbia Gas crews close off the area to avoid an explosion.
Crews worked for the past 2 days to repair the line, then fix holes made in the roadway to get to the gas line.
Chief Hummer says although Tracy Road is an importation roadway for emergency vehicles, agreements with other area departments helped to keep everyone safe while the road was shut down.
"Generally that's the direction we would take to get a squad or fire truck there, but we have things in place with Perrysburg Township and Northwood and we kind of backfill for each other when these circumstances happen," said Hummer.
Columbia Gas representatives say the reason it's taken since Wednesday to repair the line is because they had to put bypasses in the gas line to maintain service to their customers.
