Police confirm one man died in a west Toledo fire on Saturday.
The fire sparked inside a multi-level apartment complex on the 2500 block of Greenway Street shortly after 11 a.m.
Fire officials say the fire appears to have started in the hallway of the basement level apartments.
According to police, a resident living in the apartment was seen smoking while carrying a gasoline-powered push lawn mower into the basement. Shortly after, witnesses saw him running into the street in flames.
Firefighters say the man suffered second degree burns and was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries on Saturday afternoon.
The apartment building was not badly damaged. The fire was confined to the basement and quickly extinguished.
The fire remains under investigation at this time.
An autopsy on the victim is underway.
