(WMC-TV) - Memphis police are warning you to be careful who you let into your home after a local repairman did a whole lot more than repairing.
According to a spokesperson for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, Rafael Mena-Rodriguez took advantage of a customer.
"He committed a heinous crime. For that crime, he will now be punished. That's the way it should be," declared Chip Washington.
The van outside his home has Dish Network's logo plastered on it.
But, investigators said a customer ordered repairs to their satellite dish and, when Mena-Rodriguez showed up to do the work, he groped and fondled the woman instead. According to the report, she had been holding the infant at the time. As she turned to place the baby on the bed, she managed to run and hide in a bathroom.
The affidavit continued to describe Mena-Rodriguez as stating, "You know, you can make a lot of money. Do you like having sex?"
The victim told officers when she tried to switch rooms, Mena-Rodriguez was taking pictures of her with a camera.
Law enforcement takes these offenses very seriously.
"Whenever something like this does occur, it is a crime and a (very) serious crime. The first thing you need to do is call law enforcement," said Washington.
The satellite tv company said Mena-Rodriguez did not and does not work for them. Instead, he worked for an independent third-party retailer.
DISH released the following statement:
"DISH requires all third-party retailers, as well as the people they employ, to comply with the law and expects the highest ethical standards from them. These standards are spelled out clearly in our contracts and actively enforced. If we find a retailer has violated the terms of our agreement, we take the appropriate action."
It is currently unclear if Mena-Rodriguez is the third-party retailer himself.
Action News 5 did call the number listed on the van and the individual who answered said this was Rodriguez's direct line. That individual declined to comment.
