TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
If Mike Collins has a strong showing on November 5 and becomes Toledo's next mayor, someone will have to be appointed to his District 2 seat on Toledo City Council.
There are some ‘political rumblings' that former Mayor Carty Finkbeiner would be considered as a possible replacement if Collins becomes mayor. The former 3-term mayor visited a golf outing fundraiser held by Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken, which was attended by Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern as . Collins was at the event as well, stopping by to talk with those at the outing.
While Finkbeiner says he hasn't been approached and did not want to comment on the possibility of replacing Collins on council if he wins the mayoral election, he did talk about his support of Collins for mayor.
"Mike does have a vision for our city that's very much like the things I wanted to focus on, which were very simple: a clean city, safe city and good schools, very basic. Not trips to China," said Finkbeiner.
Ultimately, it would be up to the 11 council members to decide who would be appointed to the District 2 seat should Collins win in November. Two candidates making a strong push in the at-large council race are former Mayor Jack Ford, and Theresa Gabriel, a member of the former Finkbeiner administration.
