NAPOLEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Parents in Napoleon are fed up with what they call a bullying problem in the schools.
"When I send my kid to school, I expect them to be safe," said Shianne Myers, in Napoleon.
But dozens of parents in the district say violent and physical acts of bullying have them feeling like their children are anything but safe.
Myers says her son has been bullied, and after hearing about another case of bullying on Toledo News Now last week, she realized he's not the only one.
"Then when I started talking to other parents, I realized that this is a huge deal and it happens a lot more than I expected it to," she said.
Myers connected with other parents on the WTOL 11 Facebook event about bullying, and created a report she presented to the school board. It includes stories and suggestions from parents of bullied children. Myers says the number of people reaching out to her to contribute has been overwhelming.
"Over 100 all together, and I got 50 testimonies or more so far," she said. "It's pretty heartbreaking to see how bad this is."
Napoleon Superintendent Dr. Steven Fogo says he plans to follow up on the concerns that were brought to the board.
"My administrative council and I will actually go through all the materials that parents presented," he said. "We also need to look at these individual instances."
Dr. Fogo said he does have a message for parents.
"We do care," he said. "We have great kids. We will get to the bottom of this and help the kids."
