One person has died and another is hospitalized following a serious multiple-vehicle crash on US-23/I-475 southbound, just north of the Airport Highway exit.
On Thursday afternoon, a car driven by Lori Sheehan, 48, of Toledo, was traveling northbound on I-475 when it swerved and lost control. Police say Sheehan's car traveled off the left side of the roadway, crossed the grass median, and struck a semi truck operated by Thomas McKee, 28, from Birmingham, AL. McKee's vehicle traveled off the left side of the road and overturned.
Police say after the accident, the spare tire from Sheehan's vehicle was ejected from the trunk and struck a northbound vehicle driven by Danny Amos, 65, of Temperance. Sheehan's vehicle then went off the right side of the road and hit another semi, operated by Gurdib Dhillon, 42, of Sacramento, CA.
Sheehan and the passenger in her car, Marcia Michalski, 69, of Toledo, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Sheehan was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other three drivers involved were not injured in the crash.
All southbound lanes were temporarily closed after the accident, but have since been reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
