Brokers: It’s still a buyers’ market!

Brokers in the area say the government shutdown has not caused any long-term effects for the Toledo housing economy, although there was some initial concern.

During the shutdown, USDA loans were not being processed, and at the time, new applications for FHA loans were also affected. But brokers say the shutdown did not last long enough to have a permanent affect.

They say the housing market was just starting to pick back up before the shutdown. Now they hope the shutdown doesn't discourage consumers from purchasing a home.

"The issue hasn't completely gone away, but certainly for now it's a good thing," said John Mangas, a broker and partner at Re/Max Preferred Associates. "It gets consumers back in a position where they're feeling comfortable going forward again."

Brokers say it is still a buyers' market, and it's a great time to buy a house.
