Coats, blankets offered for ‘Keep Lenawee Warm’ event

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) -

A local charity is working to make sure those in need have coats and blankets to keep warm this winter.

Associated Charities of Lenawee opened their doors to county residents Thursday and Friday as part of an annual event called "Keep Lenawee Warm."

Hundreds of people were expected to stop by for jackets, hats, mittens and blankets during the two-day event. The winter gear was donated by other residents in the community and local organizations. It was then cleaned by Adrian dry cleaners.

"We've already had people in, thanking us, [saying] that they didn't have a winter coat," said Delight Creech, executive director of Associated Charities of Lenawee. "I had a lady in today that she just had a sweatshirt…so she was so appreciative. So we are making a difference."

Last year, they helped provide more than 900 people with a winter coat.
