TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Toledo Police Department's new canine unit made its first arrest Tuesday, after starting patrol operations Monday, already demonstrating their effectiveness on the streets.
On Tuesday morning, Toledo police responded to the 3800 block of Seiss Avenue on a call of two unknown suspects entering a vacant building. The initial responding units set up a perimeter around the building and requested canine units.
Then Officer Joseph Taylor and Joker, along with Lt. Brian Twining and Charly, arrived at the scene. When Taylor announced the canine presence, advising the suspects to exit the building, Richard Reichow attempted to flee out a window, but was immediately apprehended by an officer.
Taylor and Joker then entered the building and began to search for the second suspect. Joker alerted to a pile of debris in a corner room of the building. When Taylor pulled away a piece of plywood, he found Buddy Rogers hiding. Rogers was taken into custody without incident.
Reichow and Rogers, who both had warrants, were charged with felony breaking and entering.
