SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -
A 14-year-old has been arrested after Sylvania Police received information about a threat to Southview High School on Monday.
Police say they received information about the threat on Monday and began to investigate. A 14-year-old male suspect was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the incident.
According to Sylvania Superintendent Brad Rieger, the student was seen with a knife in the school cafeteria by other students, who then reported him. Upon investigation, officials learned the 14-year-old also had a sheet of paper with him with the words "hit list" at the top and three students' names on the list.
"We're very proud of the students who came forward," Rieger said. "We tell students we can't address things if we don't know about it, so those students did exactly what we ask them to do."
Parents and residents in Sylvania were shocked to hear the news.
"Personal responsibility should also play in this," said Penny Levine, a Sylvania grandparent. "This is not a baby, this is not a child, this is a young adult who should know better."
The student has been suspended, with the recommendation to be expelled. The investigation is ongoing.
