A burning cross, a Smith county man beaten and shot by a family member, and in critical condition. We are told this is much more than a family feud, and outraged family members are calling it a "hate crime."
There's a lot riding on the success of the new Jeep Cherokee, not only for Chrysler, but also for the local economy.
Checking in with local Jeep dealers, sales are starting to take off and they believe it's only going to get better.
Nancy Adkins has been a loyal Jeep customer for the past 15 years and she's taking a serious look at buying a Toledo-built Cherokee.
"Get a little better fuel mileage. We like the lines of this; it's nice and clean. It seems to have a lot to offer from what I've seen and read," said Adkins.
At Grogan's Towne, the first wave of Cherokees didn't stay on the lot for very long.
"The first three came in and all three were sold in a 12-hour period," said Denny Amrhein.
Amrhein is predicting his staff will be able to average selling one Cherokee per day.
"It's hard to find an SUV that's going to get 30 miles per gallon, and the new style and looks of this car, I think is way advanced compared to anything that would be a competitor of it," explained Amrhein.
At Yark Auto, they've received a shipment of 30 Cherokees, and they're expecting to attract more customers once lease incentives start to shift into gear.
"We do a lot of leases - strong lease market. We're going to find out which model leases the best. The factory supports different models at different times, so we're looking forward to that," said Dave Doster.
Doster believes all of the options for the Cherokee, including front-wheel drive, four-by-four, and the number of cylinders, will appeal to a wide customer base.
