ROSSFORD, OHIO (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) -
On Monday night and early Tuesday morning, crews responded to a pair of fires at a Rossford duplex in the 400 block of Glenwood Road.
The first fire started in the chimney. Firefighters thought they had all the hot spots cooled.
"Just one small spot that you miss, you know, it can sit there and smolder, and unfortunately, this is the result," said Fire Chief James Verbosky.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, crews received a call saying the building was on fire for the second time that night. Crews arrived to see thick smoke and flames already through the roof. Fire crews said they have never seen flames that big in the past. The duplex was a total loss, but no injuries were reported.
All 11 people, including five children, who lived inside were evacuated a few hours before the flames erupted for the last time. The Red Cross is assisting those families with food and clothing.
There is no word on official causes yet.
The building has been demolished. Surrounding roads are expected to be closed until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
