North Baltimore is preparing for a presidential visit. Vice President Joe Biden will be at the CSX Intermodal Terminal on Wednesday, and residents say they are eager to hear what he has to say.
According to the village administrator, this will be the first time, she believes, a vice president has visited North Baltimore.
Vice President Biden will speak at the terminal at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. He is expected to talk about how to grow the economy – one area where Wood County has made positive strides.
The CSX terminal services about 67 percent of the country. Thirty trains pass through every day – about two million containers per year. It makes Wood County a more competitive area for other businesses to set up shop.
"Overall, it will bring more jobs," said Wade Gottschalk, economic development director for the county. "You may not see them as announcements, it might just be the businesses that are already here becoming a little more competitive and, therefore, being able to add a few jobs as they take business away from their competitors."
County officials say they have a lot to be proud of and they are looking forward to showing off their accomplishments to the vice president.
