(WMC-TV) - Thursday was a big night for many Memphis musicians as they were inducted to the Memphis Music Hall of Fame.

The event drew some of the biggest and most accomplished names in music.

All genres were represented tonight as several artists were inducted into the Hall of Fame including the Blackwood Brothers who have a 78-year legacy of Gospel Hits.

Johnny Cash, Albert King, The Bar-Kays, and Reverend Herbert Brewster were among the names added to the list of musical geniuses who gave the world some of the best in song.

Memphis' own David Porter considered it an honor to be celebrated.

"It's a tremendous honor and I'm very, very grateful and happy about it," he said.

Porter said the night became even more special when his dear friend super producer, Jimmy Jam, flew in to induct him.

Jimmy Jam talked about why Porter is "The Man" in his eyes.

"He was a champion for me at a really important time in my life when I got involved with the Grammys, and there had never been an African-American chairman of that organization ... He was the one who really encouraged me to kind of follow my dreams my goal," said Jam.
