As Veterans Day approaches, it's a great reminder to retire worn out American flags - in the proper way.

This weekend, The Andersons stores around Toledo are sponsoring "Operation Respect," where people can bring their faded, old, or damaged American flag to have them retired in the right way. Flags will be respectfully disposed of in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code.

Event organizers hope to stress the importance of retiring a flag correctly.

"If you're not sure if it needs to be retired, take a hard look at it. If it does, please bring it to The Andersons, we'll be very glad to take it off of people's hands, and then certainly replace it. And definitely on Monday, which is Veterans Day, we'd love to see as many bright flags flying as we possibly can," said Major Jim Nowak.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
