SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Veteran's Day is this Monday, but on Friday several organizations throughout Western Mass are pausing to give thanks to local veterans.

Springfield Technical Community College held a flag folding ceremony on the campus green this afternoon.

They also honored their roughly 280 students who are active servicemen and servicewomen.

STCC student Clifford Purdy is a member of the U.S. Air Force. He said he's thankful himself for the support the school has given.

"We're all going to school here and it helps a lot to have a lounge we can go to and to have the support of the campus around us," said Purdy.

And in West Springfield, two new benches were dedicated at the World War II Memorial on the town common.

Mayor Gregory Neffinger, Mayor-elect Ed Sullivan, and members of the West Springfield Veterans Council were on hand for the ceremony.

It has taken a few years, but West Springfield veterans are now grateful that the project is finished.

"It's wonderful to see the completion of all the hard work everyone put into it, and the love and dedication to all veterans," said Korean War veteran Neita Marshan.
