TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Students at the University of Toledo may be getting more options for housing near the campus as a proposal to add off-campus housing at Bancroft and Westwood is in the works.

The City Planning Board approved a measure to put off-campus housing at the intersection. Right now, all that stands in the lot there are empty businesses, but a Cleveland developer wants to change that.

The planned 209,000-square-foot building would have 143 units and 486 beds. It would also include 445 parking spaces.

"I think it would probably be pretty good," said Lisa Stang, who lives in the area. "It would bring more activity to the area, because it is kind of dead over here right now."

"I think it would be good to have something close here and, you know, it would be great for students to live closer to campus," added UT student Clayton Rice.

The plan to build the complex still needs to be approved by city council.
