Bowling Green school to become park

Posted: Updated:
BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Ridge Elementary School in Bowling Green closed its doors just a few months ago, but new plans are already moving forward to turn the building into a park.

The city has plans to knock the building down and turn the property into a community park, something neighbors say has been missing.

"There's green spaces in every quadrant except for this one," said Sandra Baker.

The building was scheduled to be auctioned off at the end of October, but that never happened. City officials say they bought the property last month for only $22,500.

Baker says she is happy that children will now have access to a neighborhood park.

"They'd be able to walk over there independently rather than have to be supervised to go over to the park," she said.

Officials are still working to determine with the school, built in 1931, will be demolished, but say it won't be long.
