OTTAWA COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A senior center in Ottawa County opened its doors and dining hall to veterans on Monday as a small token of appreciation to those who have served this country.

Veterans came together Monday to share their war stories at Otterbein North Shore Senior Lifestyle Community. Some of them took their first Honor Flight this year and got a chance to share their experience.

Otterbein hosts a Veterans Day event every year. One of the youngest people there this year was Adam Wells, a sophomore at Port Clinton High School. While his classmates took the day off from school, Wells played Taps at the event for vets.

"I like coming to do this, because it means more than just playing my trumpet for a little bit. The veterans really enjoy it," he said.

Otterbein is in the process of collecting photos from local vets to create a ‘wall of honor' at the senior center, which would stay up year-round.
