Just before school let out at Blessed Sacrament School in west Toledo Monday evening a staff member received a 9-1-1 text alert. Once the principal saw that alert, she put the school on lockdown.
School officials say the alert was about a person with a gun or knife in the area. The school was on lockdown for about a half hour. School officials say the building was placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of the students.
"We had about 8 minutes to figure out what we were going to do and our wonderful team pulled together and alerted parents what was going on. I'm just really proud of our team for keeping our students safe," said Blessed Sacrament Principal Elizabeth Stribik.
Police say they did get a call about someone flashing a gun at a driver in the area. Police went to check it out but the vehicle was not found.
A man has been arrested after trespassing on school property Monday.
