Adrian organization needs donations to help homeless

ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

The snow and colder temperatures have a serious affect on those without a home. Now a Lenawee County group is working to make sure the homeless have a place to go to stay warm.

Damascus Road Ministry in Adrian says this is the busiest time of year for them. As the temperature drops, more and more people come through their doors.

"They can watch TV, they can use our laundry facilities, take a shower, have snacks, warm up, just rest," said Bob Fultz, president of Damascus Road Ministry.

The organization is designed for those who have recently been released from jail or prison and have nowhere else to go, but the president says they've grown over the years and now provide help to anyone who needs it.

"I think it's life-saving," Fultz said. "It just lets them know the community hasn't forgotten about them.

Private donations have always covered the cost of food, electricity and heat at the facility.

"It's what keeps us going," said Fultz. "It's the only thing we get. Everything we've got is paid for by us and it's all by donations."

But Fultz says over the last few years, the need in the community has increased.

"It's changed from what most people think of a homeless person," he said. "We have homeless families, homeless youth."

So the organization is relying on the community to come together once again and help support them. Donations are tax deductible and can be made online or sent to:
