Book retailer Barnes & Noble plans to close its Kenwood location at the end of December, the company confirmed Friday.
Its lease expires at the end of January, said David Deason, vice president of development at New York-based Barnes & Noble.
"We worked to have the lease extended but were unable to come to an acceptable agreement with the property owner. We have numerous locations throughout the Cincinnati metro area and look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve our customers at those locations," he said.
The store is located at 7800 Montgomery Road.
DDR Corp., in the Cleveland suburb of Beachwood, owns the Sycamore Plaza at Kenwood shopping center where the Barnes & Noble store is located.
DDR spokesman Matt Schuler said the lease "was strategically not renewed due to strong tenant interest from national retailers to backfill the space. … We are excited to bring a new retailer to the center that will enhance the merchandise offering. We will provide additional details and updates at a later time."
Barnes & Noble's other Tristate locations are at Newport on the Levee, Florence, West Chester and Deerfield Township.
Barnes & Noble said employees at a closing store are allowed to interview at nearby locations for open positions.
