Bradner Preserve getting $300K in upgrades

BRADNER, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Big changes are coming to the Bradner Preserve. The Wood County Park District will be making $300,000 in upgrades.

It's all part of an effort to make a visit there more enjoyable and educational.

The Bradner Preserve is a sparkling jewel in the district system. It covers 234 pristine acres, featuring trails and boardwalks.

"Word is getting out," said Neil Munger, from the Park District. "It's slow. As we develop, more and more people are discovering it."

The centerpiece of the upgrades will be the purchase of a house on preserve property. It will be turned into a combination nature and visitor center.

"It's going to have interactive, interpretive displays and also a window to wildlife area where people can come and see the birds and other wildlife," Munger said.

There will also be a new campground, additional trails and an expanded parking lot.

District levy money will cover $200,000 of the cost. The remaining $100,000 in funding will come from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

"It gives the citizens of Wood County an opportunity to get out here and enjoy nature," said Munger. "It also gives us an opportunity to provide public education properly in a natural setting."

The upgrades should be completed by the middle of next year.
